As a Sydney wedding photographer for 20 years I have seen more than my fair share of Bridal expos. Below are my tips to have the best expo experience.

Weddings are sold as a dream. It’s common for people to offer support until your plans are different to theirs.

It is possible to compromise on all the important aspects of your day rather than create your day of joy as you desire it.. For some it descends from a dream into a nightmare. Remember that your wedding is a day about love..

When you are able to focus on the day being your sharing a declaration of love with people you love it becomes easier. Compromises become easier. Life is not a fairy tale. It requires give and take.

Expo Plans

Don’t even start till you know what’s important to you. What are your deal breakers, what things are you willing to compromise on. What really matters about your wedding day. When you know what is really important then you can start the planning.

Before you head to an expo establish a plan. Expos can be busy events with many brides after the same information and suppliers. There will be newly engaged through to nearly married brides.

Before you set out make a list.  Why are you going? What is your purpose in going? What questions do you need to ask. For example for a venue have a list such as cost per head what is included and what is extra, numbers the venue holds etc. For a wedding photographer consider the hours they cover, extra charges, different album options and so on.

Expo venues can be hot, cold adn every temperature in between. Therefore layers are important. Layers that are easy to carry. It can be a long and busy day so comfort is vital.

You need shoes you can walk miles in because you will be standing, and walking for hours. Floors can be hard so you want comfortable shoes with good cushioning.

Be Selective

Expos can be stressful. They aren’t for everyone. Some in your family or wedding party will enjoy them more than others. Take along your supoprt crea the ones who’ll have the most fun and help you get the most out of it.

If people’s hearts aren’t in it don’t force them because it will affect your day. Likewise if others are pushing you into it be honest. You may need to assign a special role so they can go instead of you.

Be diplomatic. Everyone loves to feel important, special and involved so give people special tasks

Look at the map first. Identify suppliers you want to see. Sort out their locations and plan your attack. Once inside the crowd can be overwhelming – it can be hard to find what you want. A few valuable moments at the beginning can save you hours of running around.

When you do this well you won’t be sidetracked. You won’t be trapped into questioning the decisions you’ve already made. You won’t be tempted to change your mind.

You will be ready to speak to the people you need to speak to and get the information you want.This gives you the best chance to find the wedding packages that suit you.

Stay Hydrated
Expos can be long and tiring so you need food and water. You will need all the energy you can get to get through the expo experience..
